3:00 PM | Workshops in the Village

Two concurrent one-hour workshops focusing on life in rural New England will be offered by educators and interpreters at Old Sturbridge Village.  These workshops will model programs offered for students and provide resources developed by the Village for teachers of literacy in K-12 education. Explore primary sources in Abolition and Social Change in 19th-Century New England or participate in mock town meeting in Town Meeting on Poor Relief in the 1830s.

5:00 PM | Light Dinner

5:30 PM | Panel Presentation on Engaging Students in Exploring Stories of Marginalized Groups

Engage your students in exploring stories of marginalized groups in the early 1800s using resources of the Village in printed texts, songs, illustrations, and historical artifacts.  Old Sturbridge Village staff will describe their Foundations of Interpretation project funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities to create more inclusive educational programming for students and museum visitors.  A special focus of the panel presentation will be an exploration of the book Out of the Margins: Contributions Toward a More Complete History of 1800s New England which was researched, written, and illustrated by students and staff of Old Sturbridge Academy.
