MRA Sister Madelon Honor Award

The mission of the Massachusetts Reading Association is to promote literacy for all learners through professional development, research, publications, and advocacy.

Local and special interest councils support MRA’s mission through their activities, projects and service to MRA and the literacy community. The purpose of the MRA Sister Madelon Honor Award is to commemorate councils’ achievements in supporting literacy. As MRA celebrates the achievement of its local and special interests councils, we also recognize that all councils experience different phases of growth, membership, leadership, finances, and activity. Therefore, this award is designed with three tiers so that every council can choose to participate at the level that works for them each year. Remember, MRA is here to support you every step of the way!

The activities evidenced in the award run from June 1st of each year until May 31st  of the next.  These documents are due on June 1st  of the given year.  A committee comprised of MRA members will review each submission and determine the award status. Award funds will be dispersed at MRA’s Summer Leadership Workshop (SLW) event or via mail. Local Councils will be asked to share highlights of their work evidenced in their applications during board meetings and/or at SLW so that we may learn from one another. The requirements and award amounts are in the following chart below.
